This is so crazy.
This Is Why I Never See Your Emails
Here are 3 pages of emails sent to press.releases AT drownedinsound dotcom in the past day.
I’m sharing these because today I’ve been live-blogging my emails (to sean@) on the DiS boards, but I’ve barely managed to post 50% of them so far. Why am I bothering? Partly it’s because for a while I’ve wanted to give people - especially those who complain I never get back to them - a sense for just what hits my inbox. I wanted to give other PRs a sense of what they’re up against and what the deluge looks like when you’re faced with it. Mostly I thought it might interest people to listen to what DiS gets sent and to see just how many words tumble in each day, and how little of it is actually relevant to our website or particularly communicates anything. It just feels like an endless stream of information and I’m not sure what most people hope to achieve.
I’m going to write a slightly more helpful post in a few days time about how email could/should evolve, and what people should be doing, rather than using the old “let’s stick a press release in an envelope with a CD” approach to online media. For now, I just wanted to give some context, rather than just whining.
